Esplanade青年广场（Espanade Youth Plaza, EYP）坐落于弗里曼特尔市（Fremantle）中心，位于历史悠久的公园保护区内。项目位于城市绿洲内，目的是为了满足现有社区的需求，打造一个青少年游戏空间、活动空间以及开放的公园绿地设施，同时作为连接市中心和弗里曼特尔海滨的主要绿色通道。The Esplanade Youth Plaza is situated in the heart of Fremantle city, located in the historic parkland setting of the Esplanade Reserve, an urban oasis catering to existing community needs with a junior play space, open parkland amenity and event space. Esplanade Reserve is the major green thoroughfare between the central city and the Fremantle waterfront.

The plaza is a manifestation of the very essence of Fremantle’s culture. These interpretative layers are interwoven through the space, using a range of materials and features to represent the story and rich history of the city, in particular its working past. This is manifest with the repurposing of a reclaimed marine buoy into an iconic skate element and readapting a shipping container into a bouldering tower. Complimenting this is the strong skating culture within the community, evident in the unique and challenging skateable terrain that pays homage to the local historic Wool Stores ledge. This identifies the youth plaza as a key destination for local users and both national and international visitors, providing young people with opportunities other than formal sports and structured experiences.

The plaza draws on the rich palette of the existing landscape character within the Esplanade Reserve, and incorporates complimentary landscape elements with avenue tree planting, native garden beds and the use of sympathetic materials to ensure the facility sits comfortably within the unique historic reserve setting.

The rideable terrain of the plaza with unique features, colour, forms and flow caters to the long standing and growing skate culture, BMX riders and scooter users and ensures the future growth and development of these active sports to their highest level. The response to the brief expanded the thinking of a youth plaza to include the addition of features for other growing social and urban activities such as parkour and bouldering, and meeting the needs of other active social activities such as basketball and outdoor ping pong. The expanded vision increased the breadth and diversity of the user demographic and engaged across the full spectrum of community.
